Shaping the Engineers of Tomorrow: AutoForm and the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay—Driving FEA Excellence Together

To help prepare the next generation of engineers for these industry challenges, AutoForm continues to invest in academia through knowledge sharing, software access, and hands-on training initiatives.

As part of this commitment, AutoForm recently conducted a comprehensive training program for nearly 60 students at IIT Bombay, providing them with practical experience in industry-leading simulation technology with AutoForm and helping bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world manufacturing applications.

IIT Bombay’s Vision

In India, IIT Bombay is one of India’s premier academic institutions and is globally recognized for excellence in engineering education. It has consistently produced graduates who excel in industry and research. By introducing AutoForm training, IIT Bombay aimed to nurture a generation of engineers who are confident, innovative, and capable of applying FEA to solve complex design and manufacturing challenges.

The goal was clear: create an industry‑ready workforce whose members can contribute meaningfully from the very start of their careers, continuing IIT Bombay’s tradition of shaping leaders who thrive in global industries.

The Training Program

Participants: Nearly 60 students from diverse engineering disciplines. AutoForm provided training licenses, ensuring every student could participate. In our approach, we provided hands-on classroom training, enabling students to work independently on their projects using AutoForm.

Building FEA-Ready Skills

  1. The training emphasized hands-on application.
  2. Students designed parts as part of their coursework.
  3. Using AutoForm, they simulated forming processes, validated designs, and optimized results.
  4. They learned how FEA tools streamline decision-making in product development.

By the end of the program, students were not just software users—they were FEA-ready engineers, capable of applying simulation to real-world problems.

Beyond classroom training, we also offered handholding support during the project stage—guiding students step by step as they applied AutoForm to parts they designed themselves.

Impact on Students

Innovation Mindset: Working with their own designs fostered creativity and problem-solving while students tackled real-world challenges through practical engineering solutions. The highly interactive sessions and hands-on projects kept students engaged, encouraging active learning and collaboration with the team.

Looking Ahead

Our vision doesn’t stop here. AutoForm is:

  1. Building a pipeline of FEA-ready engineers.
  2. Strengthening the link between education and industry needs.
  3. Empowering students to become innovators in automotive and manufacturing sectors.

AutoForm’s training licenses ensure accessibility, while IIT Bombay’s vision ensures relevance. Together, we have created a sustainable model for skill development.

Global Relevance

IIT Bombay is not only a leader in India but also a globally respected institution whose alumni contribute to industries and research organizations worldwide. Graduates from IIT Bombay hold leadership roles in multinational corporations, drive innovation in advanced manufacturing, and pursue cutting-edge research in universities across the globe. This collaboration with AutoForm further strengthens IIT Bombay’s ability to prepare students for international opportunities, ensuring they are equipped with skills that meet global industry standards. For AutoForm’s customers around the world, this initiative demonstrates how academia–industry partnerships in India are producing talent ready to contribute on a global scale.

Conclusion

We have been collaborating on this initiative since 2025. Over the past two years, we have helped nurture and develop more than 100 engineering students, equipping them with the knowledge and practical skills needed to excel in modern sheet metal forming and simulation technologies.

As these students move forward, they carry with them not just knowledge of AutoForm but the confidence and skillset to contribute meaningfully to the industry. This is how academia and industry, together, can shape the engineers of tomorrow.

It was a privilege for Sameer Chudnaik and Narendra Dhanajkar from “Team AutoForm” at the India office to engage with and mentor these bright young engineering minds.
